The ancient Zebra Rock found in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia has been dated to be approximately 600 million years old during the Pre Cambrian period. It is composed of fine-grained siliceous argillite and features distinct red bands and spots against a lighter background. Although there are different theories surrounding its formation, it is believed to have originated as sediment in calm or deep waters. The unique coloration is attributed to iron oxide.
